Lights. Cameras. Detroit.

The spotlight is on in Detroit - literally.

We feel good about Detroit, and there are a lot of reasons why. Most of is driven by "commitments" that haven't broken ground. But these "commitments" will temporarily suffice. Among them are investments by next generation energy technology, biotech, and film-making companies. The latter is slightly more interesting so let's rock out a conversation on that, although we're happy to entertain conversations on the other two via email.

This is some of the latest on Michigan's movie biz. Don't forget to comment below on what we've missed! We'll likely add more to this over the next few weeks...

  • Hilary Swank is in town
  • Edward Norton, Robert De Niro, and Samuel L. Jackson are en rout
  • A 146m film production studio is being planned for Allen Park called Unity Studios
  • TV show, Monster Garage, is scouting locations in the Detroit area
  • Tween sitcom to shoot in the area
  • 30-50k film-related jobs may be created over the next 2-3 years
  • All of the above listed a-list celebrities have visited 313rd.com

Ok the last one may or may not be true - but you can't argue that the ones listed before it are pretty impressive. Whether you are a business pioneering the next game changing energy technology, or a film producer piecing together a story in a Detroit backyard - Detroit is seeing an appropriate influx of creatives.

(Metro) Detroit is going to be okay  - eventually.
