Michigan, The Great Beer State
Michigan has the longest freshwater shoreline on Earth. In fact, a
person in Michigan is never more than six miles (10 km) from a natural
water source. The most abundant ingredient in any beer is water and great water makes for a great beer. Sound ridiculous? Read this.
This could explain why Michigan is home to 53 Breweries, Microbreweries
and Brew Pubs and ranks 6th in total breweries in a state. Beer is always best at its source and here you won't need to travel far to savor the flavor of Michigan's finest Ales and Lagers.
Whether you choose to explore the shelves of your local retailers or prefer to enjoy a beer poured right from the tap, southeastern Michigan holds the most concentrated area of brewers in the state. The Summer Beer Festival hosted by the Michigan Brewers Guild is a great way to sample
the crafts from more than 30 breweries, enjoy live music and taste
terrific food. It all happens in Ypsilanti at Riverside Park in Depot
Town, July 25th and 26th. On Friday from 5-9 pm and Saturday from 1-6
pm. Furthermore, July is recognized by the House of Representatives as
Michigan craft beer month and commends
Michigan's craft brewers for the contributions they have made to to
the state's communities, economy and history. So remember, when you
have a choice, choose a local beer when you hit your favorite watering hole. You will be helping Michigan's economy which in turn, can only help you.
