More than Rent on Avenue Q

Posted in NIGHT OUT Posted September 23rd, 2008 by 313rd

The twenty-first century musical Avenue Q re-opens the improved Fisher Theatre on November 5th.

"Even more than Rent," New York Times theatre critic Ben Brantley observed, Avenue Q "shimmeringly reflects the sensibility" of people "over 12 and under 40."

This Broadway hit tells of a bright-eyed college grad who comes to New York City with big dreams and a tiny bank account to settle into the neighborhood along the fictional Avenue Q. He and his new neighbors ponder romance, racism, sex, the internet and other joys and pains of the modern era using references to popular children's television and other cultural icons that helped define the new generation of theater goers.

The very adult and very funny Avenue Q won the Tony Award for Best Musical in 2004.

Avenue Q kicks off the new season November 5–23 at the Fisher Theatre, which has been dark for six months while undergoing a multi-million dollar upgrade.

Check out an online preview plus reviews and interviews with the Avenue Q creative team.
